Description Brock Filer 2003-10-28 17:42:57 UTC
KDE's Date & Time module (system calls it via kcmshell clock) causes the computer to
freeze (even the power button doesn't work) and the screen fills with vertical black and
white bars (usually, sometimes there are some colored bars, sometimes it's just white).
It doesn't happen the moment I open it, but it inevitably does. Only happens when it is
the focused application. If I go to another window, I'm safe until I bring it back to the
fore. Opening the list box to select month or timezone seems to make it happen faster.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open KDE System Administration/Date & Time control panel
2. Wait
Actual Results:
Computer crashes hard.

I left the module open for quite some time now and it didn't crash here. I am using KDE 3.2RC here, so it might have gone away since KDE 3.1.4. Can you describe your setup in more detail so we can see if there is anything special that might trigger this. Which KDE, which qt are you using?

Is the machine crashing/hanging during other operations sometimes? Like big compile-jobs?
Comment 2 Brock Filer 2004-03-26 16:21:51 UTC
Sorry, meant to include the version. It was KDE 3.1.4 and Qt 3.2. Just upgraded KDE to 3.2, still crashes. I get seg faults fairly frequently running KDE apps, but other than that it never crashes. I'll be upgrading KDE to 3.2.1 soon, I'll post in the unlikely event that changes anything.

must be a local issue - cannot reproduce here at all.
