okay, this is something that should be fixed in /etc/rc.conf. For more and more software its necessary to export a working locale in order for functionality to actually work throughout the system. This should, IMO. Be set in /etc/rc.conf as a section documenting how LANG works, and set a default to something thats generic and usable. Suggested is : # This setting will set your time format, messages and menu translations, as well as currency format, numeric format and other constants in applications. # To disable, set this to nothing (Note, some software might not work as intended then) LANG="en_US" # LANG="en_GB" # LANG="sv_SE" # LANG="es_ES" # To see what other languages are avaiable, look in /usr/share/locale # note, if you have USE="-nls" you want to comment this out. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: tagging this as "major" because its actually a fault with our system that should be fixed.
