1.8.1 was released four days ago, thought it would be time to make some noise about it. ;) Anyway, hoped it to fix some bugs, and the Changelog does list a lot, but Intel issues that have been bugging me since 1.8.0 still haven't been resolved. However, attaching a mildly adapted 1.8.1 ebuild diff below (removed 2 patches that seem to have gone upstream already). Ah, and worksforme.
Created attachment 231553 [details, diff] patch ebuild 1.8.0 --> 1.8.1
Created attachment 231557 [details] tarball of local overlay for x11-base/xorg-server-1.8.1 Here is a tarball of a local overlay for x11-base/xorg-server-1.8.1 in case it will save anyone time. Assuming a local overlay is configured at /usr/local/portage, cd /usr/local/portage, extract the tarball there and it should be installed.
Created attachment 231559 [details] 1.8.1-use-sysconfdir-for-configs.patch I'm using this patch to install config files into /etc and not /usr

It's my understanding that system configs should go to /usr/share/, and things that the administrator wants to install should end up in /etc/ (very similar to udev, which does /lib for system stuff, and /etc/ for user-defined).

I don't know if it's desired. The patch just restores the behavior which was patched into our xorg-server-1.8.0 package with 1.8.0-no-hardcoded-etc.patch
I've just bumped xorg-server to 1.8.1 without the 2 mentioned patches since they are both included in 1.8.1. I've also fixed bug #315347 in the bump, so please be on the lookout for build failures. Cheers, Rémi
