Description Willard Dawson 2010-05-10 17:24:07 UTC
After world update installed media-libs/libpng-1.4.2, revdep-rebuild attempts to re-emerge dev-python/libgnomecanvas-python-2.28.0, but fails. Reverting to media-libs/libpng-1.2.43-r2 removed the need for the rebuild. The error message is due to not finding GTK+ test program, even though it is installed. I have x11-libs/gtk+-2.18.9 installed. When I attempted to re-emerge x11-libs/gtk+, that failed at:

"/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lpng12"

Looks like I need to move past missing libping12 in a circular manner...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge ...
2.
3.

Actual Results:
checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.6.0... no
*** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why...
*** The test program compiled, but did not run. This usually means
*** that the run-time linker is not finding GTK+ or finding the wrong
*** version of GTK+. If it is not finding GTK+, you'll need to set your
*** LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable, or edit /etc/ld.so.conf to point
*** to the installed location Also, make sure you have run ldconfig if that
*** is required on your system
***
*** If you have an old version installed, it is best to remove it, although
*** you may also be able to get things to work by modifying LD_LIBRARY_PATH
configure: error: maybe you want the gtk-gnome-1-2 branch?

 * revdep-rebuild failed to emerge all packages.
 * you have the following choices:
 * - If emerge failed during the build, fix the problems and re-run revdep-rebuild.
 * - Use /etc/portage/package.keywords to unmask a newer version of the package.
 * (and remove 5_order.rr to be evaluated again)
 * - Modify the above emerge command and run it manually.
 * - Compile or unmerge unsatisfied packages manually,
 * remove temporary files, and try again.
 * (you can edit package/ebuild list first)
 * To remove temporary files, please run:
 * rm /var/cache/revdep-rebuild/*.rr
