Description William Throwe 2010-05-09 02:24:35 UTC
Merging wireshark-1.2.8-r1 fails during econf with the message below. Version 1.2.8 compiled fine two days ago, and GTK+ has not been updated since.

checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.4.0... no
*** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GTK+ is incorrectly installed.
configure: error: GTK+ 2.4 or later isn't available, so Wireshark can't be compiled

Reproducible: Always

This is not limited to wireshark. I'm guessing it was due to the libpng update, but everything that tries to link against GTK+ fails to configure. I'm running a revdep-rebuild to see if that fixes things.
Comment 4 Thomas Sachau gentoo-dev 2010-05-09 21:36:48 UTC
Please run revdep-rebuild (from gentoolkit) or emerge gtk+ again. You probably upgraded libpng, which broke gtk+ and many other libs and apps.

After that, the error should be gone, else please add another comment and reopen this bug.
Comment 5 William Throwe 2010-05-10 02:48:55 UTC
revdep-rebuild fixed it. Still don't understand how a libpng upgrade prevented wireshark from finding a gtk header file, but everything seems ok now.
