Description dyle 2010-05-06 11:58:22 UTC
I have a HP F2210 printer and everything works great on KDE-4, ... if I remove app-misc/hal-cups-utils. This package installs a bogus set of scripts which turn off my printer all the time I want to print.

So I each time I sync my portage tree, I manually kick the app-misc/hal-cups-utils line in the kde-base/printer-applet ebuild. Annoying but working.

Now, since Xorg 1.8 arrived we see hal-less systems. Wouldn't be an option to introduce a "hal" USE for the printer-applet in this case, so I don't have to delete the app-misc/hal-cups-utils line all the time?

Reproducible: Always

Or even better: get hal-cups-utils fixed. But I'll leave that to the maintainer.

Which kde version was that? Is it still an issue with kde 4.4.4 ?
Comment 3 dyle 2010-06-08 08:57:38 UTC
Checked this in KDE 4.4.4 and printer-applet does not introduce the hal-cups-utils any longer.

Fixed.
