The man pages of layman state, that the default storage path would be /usr/portage/local where it should be /usr/local/portage.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install layman
2. run man layman

Right, but has been reported as bug #271457 before and it's fixed since 1.2.4.
Please upgrade to a more recent version of layman.

Or, if you'd rather stick with stable please open a stabilization request, instead.
