hal is dead. punt the package and look for bumps / udev replacements
Please update this document to reflect the new xorg configuration info as a consequence. Removal of mention of 'hald' would be a start. A discussion of plugdev and udev and dbus would be enlightening. As well as the recommended way to xorg. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml#doc_chap4
Okay, rox-base/rox-media, though a bit buggy, is the replacement that uses udev/gdu and not hal for disk management, adding to the tree now. Once rox-media goes stable, I'd be happy to remove devtray.

(In reply to comment #3) > And what is the replacement for devtray for other devices, e.g. > soundcard/mixer? Well, Devtray handled 3 main classes of devices. Here are the replacements: Removable drives: rox-base/rox-media Sound card / mixer: rox-base/volume Printers: No replacement. I'm still not sure what Devtray was planning / trying to do with them.
