Description andrex 2010-03-11 22:33:43 UTC
Emerging app-arch/gzip-1.4 fails on x86 when the USE flag pic is not set.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge app-arch/gzip

Actual Results:
 * ERROR: app-arch/gzip-1.4 failed:
 *   (no error message)

(Full log attached)

Expected Results:
Successful installation.

The problem seems to stem from an unescaped # symbol at configure.ac:133 that gets later interpreted as the beginning of a comment in the generated Makefiles.
ASCPPPOST="sed '/^ *#/d; s,//.*,,; s/% /%/g; s/\\. /./g'"
Escaping the hash symbol with a backslash on that line fixes the problem for me.

The compilation succeeds when USE=pic is set.

USE=-pic is a dumb configuration in the first place
Comment 4 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2010-07-31 17:32:39 UTC
ive added the fix from upstream for the issue, so it should work now
