The idea struck me when I found oxygen icon pack accounting for about 50% of my world update. I was doubtful that this might be redundant. My doubt was centred around the idea that icons wont change much between bugfix version revisions. Discussing on #oxygen and #gentoo-kde, I found that the icon pack contains redundant svgs. We usually mirror upstream tarballs. Now, the reduction in package size can be achieved by repacking upstream tarballs. We can place a README.gentoo to point to kde's webspace for those interested in the svgs and leave the pngs unmodified. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=74184&forumpage=0&PHPSESSID=cae has oxygen icons download option without svgs for example.
Done for 4.5.1...
It won't be done for earlier versions, and 4.5.1 is going to hit tree soon
My objective is achieved once 4.5.1 hits stable tree for regular use. Please close the bug once that is done.
KDE 4.5.1 won't hit stable and I don't think that any 4.5 series will, but yes, we could keep the bug open until a stable release fixes it.
Done for 4.4.5 as well. There may be some fallout while the mirrors are not in sync.
