Description Iskren Slavov 2010-02-25 08:58:38 UTC
Yesterday a new version of the kernel was released.
I updated to gentoo-sources-2.6.33. But the nvidia-drivers failed to compile as expected.

I found a patch on the NVIDIA forum. I'm attaching a patch for the updated ebuild and the patch for the source of NVIDIA driver itself.

Probably there must be some check in the ebuild if the user is running 2.6.33 version of kernel and then apply the patch.

I hope this is helpful for you Gentoo Devs.

Reproducible: Always

patch for nvidia-drivers-190.53-r1 ebuild.
Comment 3 Iskren Slavov 2010-02-25 09:05:26 UTC
Actually the patch checks the kernel version so a check in the ebuild is not needed.

Same problem here, attached patches fixed it.

Still nothing imported to the official portage tree??

I've used the patch from nv forums. but still waiting for the portage.

You may also use the beta drivers 195.36.03, they work with 2.6.33 without the need for a patch.

Same here. Time to try Nouveau again...

While Noveau work great for older NVIDIA Cards, they don't have support for the newer ones so I'll have to use the nvidia-drivers ebuild.

I don't actually know. Probably 'cause it's ~unstable and the developers are more focused on the stable branches of portage. Or maybe they're waiting for NVIDIA to provide an official new version of the drivers. These are just guesses ;)

Anyone who voted for this might want to shift their votes over to the bug report I filed, considering this is a duplicate of it.

Also, I recommend that anyone using the patch posted in this bug report recompile their drivers with the patch posted in the bug report I filed. The patch Iskren Slavov found on the nvidia forums has a bug involving acpi_namespace(). While, no one has reported issues regarding this, there is a possibility that this will cause a kernel panic when that function is called.
