Description Longpoke 2010-02-21 21:47:29 UTC
Every couple minutes, when I'm using gedit, if I paste some text with ctrl+v, it pastes completely away from the cursor, over or below. It even happens when I have some text highlighted that I want to paste over (if that helps). Also, I usually highlight things with ctrl+shift+(left|right), and move to where I want to paste it with ctrl+(left|right), maybe that has something to do with triggering the problem.

I haven't found a way to reproduce it... I don't even know if it's a bug in gedit or X11 or GTK or maybe even something else. I think it seems to be more likely to happen when switching tabs. It happend with gnome/metacity/etc, now I have openbox and slim, and the same thing still happens. Hopefully someone else in the world with the same problem finds this and posts here :)

Okay, I can reproduce it now. If I middle-click anywhere, then move the text insertion cursor anywhere away from where I middle clicked, and then paste (using ctrl+v OR alternate click -> paste), it will paste at where I middle clicked instead.

Note that it will only happen if my "middle click clipboard" is empty (ie: no text appears when I middle click somewhere).

I just tested, and it happens on my other amd64 system as well, which also has openbox.

Actually, I stopped middle clicking, and it's still happening once in a while...

Sorry but, can you please explain again the problem you are suffering now? I am a bit messed up due middle-clicking stuff and so. If possible, please, list exact steps to reproduce the problem

Thanks a lot and sorry for the inconvenience
Comment 6 Longpoke 2010-02-27 16:52:16 UTC
1. Start a new document
2. Write "hi", highlight it, press ctrl+x
3. Hit enter once to create a second line
4. Leave the text cursor on the second line
5. Middle click the first line
6. Press ctrl+v
7. Notice how it's pasted on the top line instead of the one with the cursor

I haven't been able to reproduce the other case...

Reproduced and reported upstream, thanks a lot for the steps :-)
