Description Andrew Udvare 2010-01-02 02:42:32 UTC
This is an application to check Xbox 360 game ISOs against an online database (at http://www.abgx360.net/verified.php). Checks CRCs of everything, including the entire game data area.

I have split this into 2 ebuilds because that is how it is distributed. I am sure it is possible to make it into one with a USE flag such as gui. The GUI is simply a front-end to abgx360.

Two problems: http://www.abgx360.net/download.html only has MegaUpload, RapidShare and a dead mirror for the tar'd source. So this needs to get onto distribution servers I would imagine.

Also, we cannot distribute the Video ISO files (at the bottom of the download page) as they are copyrighted by Microsoft, so instead we should just provide a link to the download page and tell users to read the directions on where to place them.

Reproducible: Always

abgx360 ebuild

This ebuild should have a message regarding the Video ISOs for patching and verification which we cannot distribute legally.

Thanks for providing this ebuild. All we need now is a package maintainer!

I've updated the .ebuild files with the new mirrors available based on Tatsh first release. I've tested them on arch ~amd64 and ~x86 and updated to an user overlay. What should be the next step in order to share them with the rest of users?

Where? Is the source for abgx360 still being distributed?

To be honest, I'm not really interested in this stuff any-more. I have not used this tool in ages. I don't pirate games. All I ever used this tool for was to check my own personal dumps (made with an old model Liteon that could read Xbox 360 games if put in the correct mode through special IOCTL commands). Don't believe me, don't care.

It's nice to provide but I don't really think that many Gentoo users are using this software whether it be through source or through the binary they provide. My estimation is that 90% of the users of this application are using it to get some kind of certainty that their burned version of some game will not get them banned from Xbox LIVE. And 90% of the time that burned version is pirated. So I cannot say I am terribly interested in seeing Gentoo distribute this in any way officially. Gentoo project shouldn't be getting its hands dirty even if only slightly.

The software is also not open source even though the source is given. The author made that clear a while ago.

You can find it in their website.

Also you might be right and nowadays is used by more people as an evil tool for piracy and not getting banned for XBOX Live...
