without dirmngr a search for a key takes awfully long and import isn't successful (tested it with the key "Redaktion Linux-Magazin" C60B 1C94 316B 7F38 E8CC E1C1 8EA6 1F22 44F0 F2B3)

dirmngr will pull net-nds/openldap and I think kgpg is mostly usable without dirmngr installed too?

perhaps a elog message would suit better here?

Well I'm runnting 4.4.2 w/ dirmngr flawlessly and I'd been surprised if the status were changed in the mean while.
