Description Christopher J. Madsen 2009-12-21 01:56:07 UTC
I've been trying to upgrade from net-misc/vnc to net-misc/tigervnc, but tigervnc crashes every time I type a shifted key.

Here's the end of the VNC server's log (I've also attached a couple of complete logfiles):
Keymap changed! Regrabbing keys...XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":1.0"

after 192 requests (192 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :1.0.
gnome-screensaver: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :1.0.
gnome-power-manager: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :1.0.
search: Fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :1.0.
nautilus: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :1.0.
gnome-settings-daemon: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :1.0.
Window manager warning: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on display ':1.0'.
gnome-panel: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :1.0.
gnome-terminal: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :1.0.

The "Keymap changed! Regrabbing keys..." message appears as soon as I press Shift, and the rest happens when I press A.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install net-misc/tigervnc-1.0.0-r2
2. Connect via SSH, and start the server with "vncserver :1"
3. Connect to VNC server. (I've used TightVNC 1.3.10 on Windows, and vinagre 2.26.1 on Linux.)
4. Click on the Terminal icon (I'm using GNOME.)
5. In the terminal window, hold down shift and press A.
6. The VNC server immediately crashes.
Actual Results:
The VNC server crashed.

Expected Results:
An "A" should appear in the terminal window.

Output from "paludis --info net-misc/tigervnc" is attached as tigervnc_info.txt
Two complete logfiles (from startup to crash) are attached as tigervnc_crash-1.log & tigervnc_crash-2.log

Your problem may be a missing dependency on an x11-proto package that either needs rebuilding or updating.

I had problems with tigervnc's Ctrl and Shift keys til I updated the x11-proto and some other affected libs and it went away.

Forgot to note, this could be related to bug 297740.

TigerVNC 1.0.1 is now available: 19 Mar 2010

Can anyone put in portage?

I now have net-misc/tigervnc 1.0.1_p20100529 installed, and it no longer crashes when I type a shifted key. It has a problem where the Alt key keeps getting stuck down, but that seems to be a separate issue.
