Description georgi 2009-12-03 23:06:48 UTC
Moving from gentoo-sources-2.6.31-r6 to 2.6.32 (via make oldconfig) causes NFSv3 shares to no longer mount with the message

mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified

My kernel is configured with NFSv3 support (which is the only version supported by my server) and no NFSv4 support. Let me know if you would like to see the full config.

/etc/fstab entry:

192.168.0.1:/nfsshare /home/user/nfsshare nfs defaults,ro,user,nolock 0 0

Comment 1 Rafał Mużyło 2009-12-04 00:40:03 UTC
Did you tried to check which option is supposed
to be incorrect ?
Comment 2 georgi 2009-12-04 06:57:12 UTC
Yes, I tried removing each one of them in turn, and mounting with no options at all. Same result.
Comment 3 Bob Raitz 2009-12-06 06:33:49 UTC
I can verify this behavior with both x86 and x86_64.

.configs also available upon request.

See your nfsmount.conf for bad defaults.

See also if adding 'vers=3' to your mount options helps.

I added nfsvers=3 to my autofs mounts, and it worked.

vers=3 worked for me. I wonder what the difference is between vers and nfsvers. BTW, I do not have a nfsmount.conf.

I recommend adding a note to the kernel ebuild mentioning this.

It's not a problem with the kernel,
check nfs-utils sources, you'll find something interesting there.

The problem only becomes evident after booting kernel 2.6.32, so I agree that there should be a warning of some sort.
