Early HINT:

More findings similar in structure to this one 
are to be expected with upcoming glibc-2.11
in other packages / applications too.

"... glibc cleaned up some unnecessary includes [in] their header
 ... so our code was working by accident."

Problem occurs when upgrading 
. . . from    (~) sys-libs/glibc-2.10.1          <---  Bug #289342
. . . to upcoming          glibc-2.11
