Description Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-11-03 08:43:29 UTC
Seems like kdepimlibs needs dev-libs/boost-1.40 with python USE flag enabled or else compilation fails. I will attach a build.log file which shows the error. After I enabled python USE flag for boost-1.40 kdepinlibs compiled flawlessly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. USE="eselect -python" emerge -1v ~boost-1.40
2. emerge -1 ~kdepimlibs-4.3.2

Removing version number from summary as this appears to be a problem with all kdepimlibs versions.

Reverted. I don't see anything in kdepimlibs that would require boost's python libraries and prev. versions all work fine.

Moving the bug to boost maintainers, clearly there's something wrong with disabling python in boost.
Comment 6 Łukasz Michalik 2009-11-09 18:33:59 UTC
We're hitting https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/3490 (it explains matter in detail so no point in duplicating it here). Conclusion: kdepimlibs won't compile with =boost-1.40[-python], but will work with lower and higher versions.

Tiziano: in my opinion 1.40 should have IUSE=python deleted and always enabled, until the fix hits release in 1.41 or 1.40.1, as we're getting a header only parameter library that is broken.

Well, I applied the patch attached to that comment and kdepimlibs now builds fine on ~amd64 with boost[-python]. So thanks.

This seems fixed with boost 1.41 (current stable)
