The most recent version of Firefox (www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.5.4) builds and installs, but fails to start. When I type `firefox` on the command line, it replies, "Could not read application.ini" and returns without opening any browswer windows. I get the same error from www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.5.3-r1, but not www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.5.3. I'm using net-libs/xulrunner-1.9.1.4 and dev-libs/nspr-4.8, if it matters. Here's how I had 3.5.4 configured: [ebuild R ] www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.5.4 USE="alsa dbus java mozdevelop -bindist -custom-optimization -gnome -iceweasel -restrict-javascript -sqlite -startup-notification" LINGUAS="en en_US -af -ar -as -be -bg -bn -bn_BD -bn_IN -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -en_GB -eo -es -es_AR -es_CL -es_ES -es_MX -et -eu -fa -fi -fr -fy -fy_NL -ga -ga_IE -gl -gu -gu_IN -he -hi -hi_IN -hr -hu -id -is -it -ja -ka -kk -kn -ko -ku -lt -lv -mk -ml -mn -mr -nb -nb_NO -nl -nn -nn_NO -oc -or -pa -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -pt_PT -rm -ro -ru -si -sk -sl -sq -sr -sv -sv_SE -ta -ta_LK -te -th -tr -uk -vi -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB Whether I have 3.5.3 or 3.5.4 installed, the package installs the file "/usr/lib64/mozilla-firefox/application.ini", and the contents of each reflect the appropriate version.
I noticed that between 3.5.3 and 3.5.3-r1, that /usr/bin/firefox went from being a shell script to a symlink. When I use the shell script from 3.5.3, 3.5.4 starts and runs as expected.
Nevermind. I am now unable to reproduce the bug, and I think it had something to do with some clutter in one of the directories in my $PATH.
