I'm sorry I uploaded the wrong build log. But something got scrambled up and I just noticed it today. the actual failing error message is: /var/tmp/cross/arm-elf/portage/cross-arm-elf/newlib-1.16.0/work/newlib-1.16.0/libgloss/arm/linux-syscalls0.S:146: Error: missing expression -- `swi'
I got the same error. One of the replies to this thread: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.newlib/5612 provides a patch. I was not able to test it.
Ok I added the patch to my ebuild. It compiles without Problems now. Tomorrow I will test if any other problems come up with this. I'll append my updated Ebuild and patch. The patch is a bit poorly set up by me, with adding the explicit path to newlib-1.16 but at least it does work for now.

I was able to build an arm-elf cross compiler for amd64 with this patch. Thanks very much. Why is there no chance of this patch being added to the tree if it's good enough for the upstream tree?
newlib 0.18.0 has been released. I hope, it includes linux-syscalls0.S.patch. Anyway: can somebody please do something? At least, this bug isn't dead like 296726.

I know this patch. Its the one upstream used to solve this issue. Please either apply a patch or do a bump to 0.18.0.
This bug can be closed. 0.18 has hit the tree.
