net-mail/mailgraph (or net-analyzer/rrdtool ?) has incorrect dependency information. The graphs drawn by mailgraph ony showed only weird boxes where the text should have been, i suspected this to be a problem with missing fonts, because the affected server has only a very limited number of packages installed, and /usr/share/fonts/ didn't even exist. I created it and copied the fonts from a desktop gentoo system, and the mailgraph images went from "weird boxes instead of text" to "normal". So, i think maybe either mailgraph or rrdtool is missing dependency information on something in the media-font category. The affected system is using the amd64-hardened-nomultilib profile. Any more info needed?

If you manage to miss the postinst-notes (like i apparently did), your new shiny rrdtool is pretty much useless...
Maybe a virtual should be created for packages like this who need fonts. In my humble opinion, a package with all dependencies installed should work without more steps by the user. The current situation is sub-par.
(In reply to comment #4) > Shouldn´t this just depend on media-fonts/dejavu then? No, maybe someone wants another font. > If you manage to miss > the postinst-notes (like i apparently did), your new shiny rrdtool is pretty > much useless... > Users are supposed to read these messages. If you don't read them at install time, use the elog facility to save them. See man make.conf. >Maybe a virtual should be created for packages like this who need fonts. >In my humble opinion, a package with all dependencies installed should work >without more steps by the user. The current situation is sub-par. I'll reopen this bug, to give the maintainer the chance to consider this.
> Users are supposed to read these messages. If you don't read them at install > time, use the elog facility to save them. See man make.conf. I´ll take the blame for this one, but i don´t see why we shouldn´t depend on a font, or a virtual for some font? Even if there´s some esotheric use case where you don´t need rrdtool to draw text, it shouldn´t hurt that much to have a lone font laying around.
