Description DrSlony 2009-10-20 23:27:46 UTC
hedgewars-0.9.12 is broken for some (all?) gentoo nvidia users. A line in uStore.pas needs to be commented out, and for it to compile succesfully, dev-lang/fpc needs to be updated to 2.2.4-r2
This ebuild does that.

hedgewars-0.9.12 patched ebuild

Check /etc/make.conf for PORTDIR_OVERLAY and copy this ebuild to the appropriate place, e.g. if PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" then:
mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/games-strategy/hedgewars/files
cd /usr/local/portage/games-strategy/hedgewars/
Download this ebuild to /usr/local/portage/games-strategy/hedgewars/hedgewars-0.9.12.ebuild
Download the attached hedgewars-0.9.12.patch to /usr/local/portage/games-strategy/hedgewars/files/hedgewars-0.9.12.patch
Now run:
ebuild hedgewars-0.9.12.ebuild digest
and then emerge hedgewars as you normally would.

Describe how it fails a bit more. hedgewars seems to work fine for me with dev-lang/fpc-2.2.0 and x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-185.18.31
Comment 4 DrSlony 2009-10-21 13:50:52 UTC
hwengine closes the moment it starts. I'm not the only one who had to comment out that line, but strangely enough another guy I know of has an ATI card. Needs more user input.

"hedgewars seems to work fine for me with
dev-lang/fpc-2.2.0"
Yes, hedgewars-0.9.12 will compile fine with fpc-2.2.0, but it will fail if you use my patch and fpc-2.2.0.

See http://bugs.freepascal.org/view.php?id=11469
Comment 5 Neil Skrypuch 2009-12-14 04:32:14 UTC
I hit this issue too on amd64 with x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-190.43-r3 and dev-lang/fpc-2.2.0. Trying to start a "simple" game for example would bring up the game window for a moment, but then immediately close it again, at which point the game is hung and simply says "In game...".

I updated fpc to 2.2.4 (from 2.2.0) and used the attached ebuild/patch, and Hedgewars is working properly for me now.

Same here, hedgewars crashed on this following machine upon starting a game until i followed the directions here.

Comment 7 Bill Smith 2010-03-11 01:00:35 UTC
I have the same problem on an amd64 system with nvidia-drivers-190.53-r1, fpc-2.20, and hedgewars-0.9.12 (and I think .11). The game window opens and closes immediately, leaving the original menu window open with the message "In game..".

The updated ebuild and patch described in this post worked for me. Hedgewars runs great now.

Fixed hedgewars-0.9.13 ebuild

The patch hedgewars-0.9.12.patch appears to be applied upstream for hedgewars-0.9.13, but still needs >=dev-lang/fpc-2.2.4-r2 to run without crashing. The ebuild needs to be updated to reflect this.

reopen if there's a problem with 0.9.14
