Description Nikoli 2009-10-17 13:35:05 UTC
After updating to latest stable gcc revdep-rebuild founds broken package:

executed revdep-rebuild twice and it still thinks that ImageMagick should be fixed.
Also I can not emerge xine-lib, same error as in bug 285338

# lafilefixer --justfixit

if that works for you, please close this bug. i'm pretty sure it does.

That's crap!

I have the same problem with fftw and imagemagick. I can remove both, re-emerge them, and the *.la files are broken _again_.

I'm pretty sure, that using lafilefixer + re-emerge fftw and imagemagick yields broken *.la files again.
Comment 5 Nikoli 2009-10-17 17:45:31 UTC
Yes, after reemerge imagemagick is broken again, possibly it will be fixed by
rm -r $DISTDIR
emerge -1v gcc && gcc-config x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.3.4 && \
emerge -1v linux-headers glibc binutils gcc-config && \
emerge -1vb linux-headers glibc binutils gcc-config gcc && \
emerge -bkev system && \
emerge -bkev world

...but I need time to check it. I reopen bug because many people will have same problem, if I am wrong, please close bug.
Comment 6 Sven 2009-10-17 17:58:37 UTC
IMHO, the path that libgomp.la is expected to be at, comes from the *.la files installed by gcc:

# grep libdir /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/*.la
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/libgfortranbegin.la:libdir='/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/libgfortran.la:libdir='/usr/lib/../lib64'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/libgomp.la:libdir='/usr/lib/../lib64'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/libmudflap.la:libdir='/usr/lib/../lib64'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/libmudflapth.la:libdir='/usr/lib/../lib64'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/libsupc++.la:libdir='/usr/lib/../lib64'
Comment 7 Nikoli 2009-10-17 19:06:53 UTC
gcc 4.3.2 does not have this problem:
grep libdir /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/*.la
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/libgfortranbegin.la:libdir='/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/libgfortran.la:libdir='/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/libgomp.la:libdir='/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/libmudflap.la:libdir='/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/libmudflapth.la:libdir='/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2'

rebuild gcc-4.3.4. there was a bug in the eclass a while back.

How can it dup of something that was closed a month ago?
The gcc-4.3.4 upgrade (stable) was these days.

I have looked at the CVS. I don't see any relevant commit in the eclass directory:
http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/eclass/?sortby=date

But syncing and re-emerging gcc helped, for some reason. I have no idea why.
Comment 11 Nikoli 2009-10-18 05:28:31 UTC
Yes, for me this fixed gcc .la files:
emerge -1v gcc && gcc-config x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.3.4 && emerge -1v linux-headers glibc binutils gcc-config && emerge -1vb linux-headers glibc binutils gcc-config gcc && emerge -bkev system

I hope the first build of gcc 4.3.4 will be fixed too.
Comment 12 Arthur D. 2009-10-18 18:20:33 UTC
Just upgraded gcc on 3 machines and got same issues with ImageMagick and transcode (unsuccessfull revdep-rebuild and compilation failures).

Sorry for asking, but is that appropriate for stable packages?
Comment 13 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-10-19 03:06:13 UTC
a) maybe you want to check out the bug this was marked a duplicate of.
b) it has nothing to do with stable packages. it affects all gcc versions.
