Description Raffaello D. Di Napoli 2009-10-08 11:35:48 UTC
I get this (warning?) message on almost any emerge, and often more than once per single ebuild. This morning it even showed up during the calculation of dependencies:

$ sudo emerge -f =gnome-session-2.22.3-r1 =gnome-session-2.26.1-r1
Calculating dependencies \sandbox:main signal SIGQUIT already had a handler ...

... done!

Notice the backslash before “sandbox”, due to the spinner getting garbled by the unexpected echo to stderr.

I’m using baselayout-2, with /bin/sh symlinked to /bin/dash instead of bash. As far as I can remember, this didn’t happen until a few weeks ago, and surely it never happened when I had /bin/sh linked to bash. I upgrade very often, so these time references might mean something to you devs, I don’t know...

Bug 285341 seems related, except it’s talking about revdep-rebuild. My guess is that it’s something in each ebuild which is allowed in bash, and dash emits a warning for it instead. Or maybe an updated emerge/portage version caused this to show up?

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge of almost any ebuild.

Actual Results:
Build succeeds, but one or more of these warnings are output to console for each ebuild, either in the fetch or the install phase (or, I guess, any phase where a function defined in the ebuild is called):

sandbox:main signal SIGQUIT already had a handler

Expected Results:
No such warning message.

Comment 1 Raffaello D. Di Napoli 2009-10-08 11:54:53 UTC
Actually it also happens with the ebuild command:

$ sudo ebuild gnome-session-2.22.3-r1.ebuild manifest
sandbox:main signal SIGQUIT already had a handler ...

>>> Creating Manifest for /usr/local/portage/gnome-base/gnome-session

So I’d say it’s a portage-wide bug. Should I change bug title? How?
Comment 2 Dmitry A. Yanko 2009-10-11 01:07:44 UTC
Same here. With every ebuild.
Comment 3 Ihar Hrachyshka 2009-10-11 13:41:09 UTC
Same here on stable amd64, for every portage activity:
