This error apears usually in gnome dialogs, such as the dialog used to edit a profile in gnome-terminal. The problem is that instead of "General", it says "b>General/b>".

report of a fix of 1.) emerge libxml 2.) emerge libxml2 3.) rm -rf ~/.gconf ~/.gnome ~/.nautilus can you check if you still run into those problems after doing each step? i suspect remerging libxml2 is the critical step. remember to back up those settings dirs. thanks.
I did step 1, 2 and 3. Because of step 3, gnome kinda fucked up. I now you said to back them up, but I thought that without them, *gnome will just load the defaults*. Now the gnome-panel size is double, and gnome-terminal doesn't have the menu bar visible... And I can't even switch between windows (ALT + TAB doesn't work...). Was this really supposed to happen ? And the error still seems to be there...
I've reinstalled the system, and now everything seems ok...
