Description Harris Landgarten 2009-09-06 04:19:45 UTC
I run a mixed ipv6/1pv4 network. After upgrading samba and samba client to 3.3.7 on the client computer a cifs mount failed.

The log on the client shows:

kernel: CIFS: ip address too long
kernel: CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -22

changing the fstab entry from the dns name to the ipv4 ip address fixes the problem.

dns returns:

host servername
servername has address 192.168.1.2
servername has IPv6 address 2001:470:1f07:221:d412:1ff:xxxx:xxxx

Reproducible: Always

Maybe try the patch from bug #352868. ;)

samba-client was dropped from portage a while ago.
