Description Marc Schiffbauer gentoo-dev 2009-07-23 12:20:15 UTC
I have a VG named "vg00". After upgrading to sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.49 the directory /dev/vg00 does not exist after reboot.

This broke my system as I have all but by /boot filesystems on LVM referenced by /dev/vg00/{root,usr,var,...} in /etc/fstab

I could manually mount the filesystems from /dev/mapper/vg00-{root,usr,var,...} to revert to the previous lvm version.

I did not find anything on the net /dev/<VG> being deprecated or something so I assume this is a severe bug.

Comment 2 Daniel Santos 2009-07-23 23:20:47 UTC
The problem appears to be either a change to /lib64/rcscripts/addons/lvm-start.sh or just it's failure to accept --ignorelockingfailure. It rendered my system unbootable and it took me almost an hour to find the problem and fix it. This will be breaking a lot of people's systems and I request that this build be pulled immediately.

Here is the work-around:
1. Hit I for an interactive boot as soon as possible
2. When you get LVM, select 4 to enter a shell
3. Type "mount -o remount,rw /" and exit the shell
4. Start LVM
5. Enter a shell again immediately after LVM starts.
6. Type "mount -o remount,ro /"
7. Continue boot process

Markign as a dupe of the other locking-dir bug.
