Description Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-07-07 15:12:08 UTC
There are a few changes in glibc-2.10 that might make your software fail to build with it, please refer to my blog post [1] if you're not sure what the problem is. Also make sure to fix it rather than sidestepping the issue [2].

And no I don't usually provide emerge --info with these bugs because they are caused by glibc-2.10!

Thanks, Diego

Can't reproduce with GCC 4.4.1 and GLIBC 2.10.1.
Comment 3 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-07 13:12:44 UTC
Samuli, do I remember you using amd64? I think this package have very different behaviour between the two arches.

True.

My bad then, sorry Diego. I'll leave fixing this to someone with x86.

Please, keep it in portage. That is the only way to get "supported" many scanners under sane. Sane devs do not maintain all kind of drivers, and this package provides supports for many devices.

Please commit the patches in bug #248898 (more recent versions of the package) to the tree and you can immediately close my bug #280297 (reporting that the in-tree, outdated version cannot be compiled).

In my case, Epson PerfectionV10 scaner is supported by the iscan package (epkowa driver). See http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-mfgs-cvs.html .

What's the problem on x86 with glibc-2.10. and iscan? ;-) Sorry, I don't have the time at the moment to read your links, Diego, but maybe it does not happen with recent iscan drivers?
Comment 8 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-11 07:34:12 UTC
I'll see if I can fix this before going on vacation, I'd also like for this _not_ to go (although I would split it up in iscan and iscan-firmware, then iscan I wouldn't care ;P)… one of my scanners use this.

Patch to fix glibc-2.10 compilation failure

Only compilation on x86 was tested.

Fix pointer arithmetic of previous patch

Sorry, the wrong pointer arithmetic was a consequence of non-testing;
and it means I am just too tired now - I hope that I made no further mistake.
Comment 11 Víctor Ostorga (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-14 00:12:55 UTC
Thanks for the patch! I tested and worked fine here
btw the next step should be bumping version, bug 248898
