According to a how-to doc discussing how to get OpenOffice to connect to a mysql database using the ODBC method there are two extra pieces of software that need to be installed besides openoffice and mysql. they are unixODBC - which gentoo has in the portage tree and a mysql driver called myodbc from mysql which is not in the portage tree. this mysql myodbc driver creates a program called isql (amoung other things) that is apparently essential to control access to mysql from ODBC. I don't personally know if this is the case for gentoo, but it was required to my my binary mandrake distro to work. mysql releases the source code for this product from the mysql web site. could someone take a look at this and see if this small software package would make a good addition to gentoo, or if its even required? thanks Rance
After a second search of bugs.gentoo.org I found bug 15546 that created a .ebuild for the program I mentioned. Sorry but it didnt show up in my first search for whatever reason. maybe the ebuild is already done, it just needs to be added to the portage tree? Rance
isql is part of the unixODBC package. myodbc is now in the tree, see bug 15546.
