After you installed www-servers/tomcat-6.0.18-r3 the permission for /var/lib/tomcat-6/work/Catalina/localhost aren't right.

In my opinion the rights should be 774 for it an its subfolders. For the user tomcat:tomcat.

Right now it ist 744. This is a problem, cause you can't work with it.

We create the directory with 755 tomcat:tomcat, see src_install() inside ebuild

Are you getting some type of error or are you requesting the ebuild be changed?
