Thomas, do you know if LAME has plans for using the shared lib from mpg123 ? I doubt this is trivial though, last time I checked it was quite a different beast.
They are different things atm., recently, lame folks invested work to switch to some other mpg123 fork they had in the repo for some time, to get lame LGPL-clean. While there is tentative support for the idea to make lame use libmpg123 instead, they don't have the will/manpower to change just again. Also, this effort would involve adding some special API to libmpg123 for the frame analyzer, which might come anyway, but not just yet. So, for a user that is not willing to step up to work on this, the two instances of mpg123-derived code are a fact and will stay that way. Side-hint at another mpg123 fork: MPlayer might switch to libmpg123, if my patch for that gets through some time (there's also manpower lacking to get it tested, apparently). To reiterate: Lame's mpglib is _not_ just a copy. It's a fork of older mpg123 code.
