It says you need to include the "build.log", the error message itself doesn't tell anything. Also include "emerge --info".

Then reopen this bug.

what's the best way to get the build.log (or emerge --info) from my virtual machine to here?

use ftp, or scp, or a shared volume between your systems. But that's something we cannot help you with.

Please reopen this bug once you have attached the build.log.

Depends on the virtual machine.  Presumably it has network access, since it can download source to emerge; if so, you can start sshd and ssh in and get the info that way.

If the VM has no network access, most VMs have a way to pass USB through to the VM, so you can mount a USB thumb drive, and copy the data that way.
