I can reproduce with gcc-4.4 and glibc-2.8 using the test case from the redhat bug: echo 'int main (void) { return 0; }' >threadmain.c gcc -o threadmain threadmain.c -Wall -g -pthread gdb -nx -ex r ./threadmain From the info provided in the redhat bug (namely that an earlier version of glibc-2.9 -- probably compiled with gcc-4.3 -- fixed it), I'm guessing that it is an optimization new to gcc-4.4 that causes this. Portage 2.2_rc28 (default/linux/amd64/2008.0, gcc-4.4.0, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r1, 2.6.28.10 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.28.10-x86_64-Intel-R-_Core-TM-2_Quad_CPU_Q9550_@_2.83GHz-with-gentoo-2.0.0 [...]
http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewvc/devel/glibc/thread_db.patch?view=co This looks like the fix.
how soon till we can get this patch commited? gdb is entirely unusable without it :(

Tested with Lazarus IDE 0.9.27 svn
this is already fixed in glibc-2.10.1 and gcc-4.4 is pmasked. so from what i can see, the current stable and unstable tree are working fine. this is only an issue when you attempt to install an unstable package masked gcc into an otherwise stable system. if i do another glibc-2.9 rev, i'll include this fix, but otherwise there is nothing to be done here.
