Printing anything to my Epson CX7300 printer gets this error message: /usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstoraster failed Printing anything to CUPS-PDF printer gets: /usr/libexec/cups/backend/cups-pdf failed The hardware is Okay because with CX7300 I can print "test page". This printer also prints if it's connected to Ubuntu, so printer is okay too. I know that is a common issue with a lot of information but anything work for me. I checked cups error_log but I simply can't find out a clue. I've cups and ghostscript (I tried with ghostscript-gpl and ghostscript-gnu) in stable branch Reproducible: Always Expected Results: That my printers work emerge --info Portage 2.1.6.7 (default/linux/amd64/2008.0, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r1, 2.6.28-gentoo-r5 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.28-gentoo-r5-x86_64-AMD_Turion-tm-_64_X2_Mobile_Technology_TL-50-with-glibc2.2.5 Timestamp of tree: Thu, 23 Apr 2009 20:30:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 3.2_p39 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.7 dev-lang/python: 2.5.4-r2 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.11.1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.6-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.26 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.27-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=k8 -msse3 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=k8 -msse3 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/pub/linux/gentoo " LANG="es_MX" LC_ALL="es_MX.utf8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="es" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow 3dnowext X a52 aac acl acpi aiglx alsa amd64 asf avahi bash-completion berkdb bzip2 cdr cli cracklib crypt cups curl dbus directfb dri dv dvd dvdr dvdread encode esd fat fbcon ffmpeg firefox flac fortran gdbm gif gnome gnome-keyring gnutls gpm gtk gtk2 hal iconv ieee1394 isdnlog jpeg laptop libnotify lm_sensors mad midi mjpeg mmx mmxext mono mp3 mpeg mudflap multilib mysql nautilus ncurses networkmanager nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin ntfs ogg opengl openmp pam pcre pdf perl png pppd python readline reflection samba sdl session smp spell spl sse sse2 sse3 ssl svg sysfs syslog tcpd threads tiff truetype unicode usb v4l v4l2 vcd vorbis xfs xine xinerama xml xorg xv xvid zlib" ALSA_CARDS="hda-intel" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev mouse keyboard synaptics" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="es" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS

Similar issue with a Canon PIXMA 4600.

Please also tell us which version of CUPS, Ghostscript and Gutenprint you use. Do the latest version of each (especially =app-text/ghostscript-gpl-8.71-r1) fix the issue?

[I] app-text/ghostscript-gpl (8.71@15/02/10): GPL Ghostscript - the most current Ghostscript, AFPL, relicensed. [I] net-print/cups (1.4.2-r1@18/01/10): The Common Unix Printing System. Sorry for answer late, Some months ago, I updated CUPS and now I can print (sometimes I have to restart CUPS). I don't remember which version of CUPS I used but, nowadays I have: - app-text/ghostscript-gpl-8.64-r3 - net-print/gutenprint-5.1.4 - net-print/cups-1.3.11-r11 (I think the big issue was with 1.3.10) I mean that although the problem exist if I try to print the "test page", I can print documents now.

[I] app-text/ghostscript-gpl (8.71-r1@15/03/10): GPL Ghostscript - the most current Ghostscript, AFPL, relicensed. [I] net-print/cups (1.4.2-r1@18/01/10): The Common Unix Printing System. I stumbled onto this with the following combo: [ebuild R ] net-print/cups-1.4.2-r1 USE="X acl dbus java jpeg pam png samba ssl tiff -debug -gnutls -kerberos -ldap -perl -php -python -slp -static -xinetd" LINGUAS="fi -da -de -es -eu -fr -it -ja -ko -nl -no -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -sv -zh -zh_TW" 0 kB [ebuild R ] app-text/ghostscript-gpl-8.71-r2 USE="cairo cups -X -bindist -djvu -gtk -jpeg2k" LINGUAS="-ja -ko -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB [ebuild R ] net-print/hplip-3.10.2-r2 USE="hpcups libnotify new-hpcups qt4 udev-acl -doc -fax -gtk -hpijs -minimal -parport -policykit -scanner -snmp -static-ppds" 0 kB stopped "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstoraster failed" cups-driverd[10210]: segfault at 9 ip b7570f27 sp bfeb5820 error 4 in libc-2.11.so[b7503000+13f000] hp-toolbox[10118]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp bf94c79c error 14 in python2.6[8048000+1000]

* Do you still have these problems with ghostscript-gpl-9* ? * Please try cups-1.5.0
