The linuxwacom ebuild doesn't provide any fdi file for HAL hotplugging. As an immediate result, after upgrading to x.org 1.5, the tablet started working like a mouse since x.org 1.5 ignores xorg.conf by default for what concerns devices. I tried the RedHat fdi and it works like a charm with my Volito2. SOLUTION 1)download http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewvc/devel/linuxwacom/10-linuxwacom.fdi?view=co 2)save it either to /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/10-linuxwacom.fdi or /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-linuxwacom.fdi 3)/etc/init.d/hald restart 4)restart X
Are you sure this is no duplicate of bug #265739 concerning the HAL stuff?
yes and no - Volito2 only has stylus, so I don't experience the issues that are described in the other bug as HAL is ok as it is for me. Let's put it in another way: I don't see any reason why the linuxwacom ebuild shouldn't have a HAL use flag that automatically installs the fdi file. Plus, a gentoo official guide [1] suggesting to copy-paste a config file from the CVS of another distro looks quite odd O_o Had the fdi file be installed by the ebuild, this bug would be closed, while bug #265739 would not. This is a duplicate of bug 265739. It'll be fixed when linuxwacom-0.8.3_p2 hits the main tree. It's currently available in my (ikelos) overlay which is available via layman. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 265739 ***
