Nope...

The 1.0.0.15-r2 compiles fine with all stable/maintenance kernel releases below 2.6.29, it's only since 2.6.29 that the build fails.

Note that I have NOT tried any 2.6.29-rc releases.
Comment 5 Jean-Philippe Robichaud 2009-04-13 12:22:03 UTC
I'm in the same situation. Browsing the web, I found this
http://forums.remote-exploit.org/showthread.php?t=21380

The guy patched the vmware modules and offers a tar.gz file with the sources.
http://www.spryweb.co.uk/vmware-server-modules-2.6.29.tar.gz

I haven't confirmed yet that they are actually for vmware 1.0.8. Maybe we're lucky?
Comment 6 Jean-Philippe Robichaud 2009-04-13 12:33:55 UTC
Doing a diff of the vmmon module source files from the tar.gz file above with what we have in 1.0.15-r2 shows a lot of differences. Many of them seem related to code for 2.4 kernels (which doesn't seem to exist in 'our' source files). Some files only exist in our tree and other in the other tree.

It would take someone with more experience with vmware sources than myself to take a deep look into this...
Comment 7 Jean-Philippe Robichaud 2009-04-20 14:19:18 UTC
Any progress on this? I can't use an older kernel and vmware is critical for my everyday usage...
Comment 8 Jason Cornez 2009-04-30 07:23:35 UTC
There seems to be a patch available from here. I had good luck with patches from this source for the 2.6.27 and 2.6.28 kernels...

Looks like the same bug hit me. Definitely important (for me) to get this fixed soon.

I'm hitting this problem as well. vmware-modules-1.0.0.15-r2 on 2.6.29-gentoo-r5 (which I upgraded to this morning) on i686 (not x86_64/amd64 which the OP's info mentions). It appears that there's been no activity on this bug for the last month or so? Has it been fixed? Or are we waiting on someone/thing?
