Description Roland Weigert 2009-03-23 13:51:40 UTC
Since the update to ffmpeg-0.5-r1 the songlength of vbr mp3-file is calculated wrong in mplayer and vlc. Xine and amarok still work the right way.
All kde-stuff works still right since it uses taglib.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open any any vbr-encoded mp3 with vlc or mplayer
2.Take a look at the songlegth, and compare with meta-infos of konqueror.
3.

Made a downgrade to ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20081014 to prove that ffmpeg was the causer, but the behaviour keeps the same, so I can not say, what is the causer of this. (I simply did not open vbr files before, and checked the songlengthes)

Roland, is this still an issue? If so, can you pastebin output of emerge -pv ffmpeg.

Also, what version of lame are you using?

Plus, pastebin emerge --info, etc.

I do not really know, what lame-version was used on this files. I do not use VBR my own. I simply test vbr-files, since I maintain a programm, that uses mplayer as a backend. (I first thought this was a bug of my little programm kyamo) Than I crosschecked with vlc,and ... the same result.

The problem in mplayer is still there. VLC does better in the meantime, and shows the correct songlength, but has problems when adjusting the postion with the slider, than it plays longer as the songlenth is.

Here the result of emerge --info

emerge --info

Still a problem with mplayer-1.0_rc4_p20091026?

Tested only one vbr-file, and must say: The songlength is still wrong.
Vlc shows the same length as taglib does, what is the right length.
The problematic file was encoded with LAME V3.97 -V2 --Vbr-New

You should report this to MPlayer's Mailing List (linked in their homepage).
That way the problem would get the attention it deserves.

Put this on mplayer-bugzilla.
Thanx for your help.
