Why have portmap and fam-oss as a dependency that must be installed? portmap is needed by fam-oss but why do we need fam-oss?? My KDE only install is fine because it uses the kernel's dnotify support to do what fam does. I tried a qpkg -q on both of these and nothing on my system is depended on them so I still have not installed them after 2 months of a 1.4 profile. These two should be taken out of the default profile. Sure I can ignore them but 2 months looking at them is sure annoying and I'd hate to have things on my system I do not need.
portmap isnt in the 1.4 profile ... root@vapier 0 root # grep portmap /usr/portage/profiles/* -R /usr/portage/profiles/default/packages:<net-nds/portmap-5b-r6 /usr/portage/profiles/default-1.0/packages:>=net-nds/portmap-5b-r6 /usr/portage/profiles/default-1.0-gcc3/packages:>=net-nds/portmap-5b-r6 /usr/portage/profiles/default-1.0_rc6/packages:>=net-nds/portmap-5b-r6 /usr/portage/profiles/default-ppc/packages:>=net-nds/portmap-5b-r6 /usr/portage/profiles/default-ppc-1.0/packages:>=net-nds/portmap-5b-r6 /usr/portage/profiles/default-ppc-1.0_rc6/packages:>=net-nds/portmap-5b-r6 /usr/portage/profiles/default-ppc-1.4/packages:>=net-nds/portmap-5b-r6 /usr/portage/profiles/default-sparc64-1.0/packages:>=net-nds/portmap-5b-r6
oh and fam isnt in any profile
Then why does emerge want to install it?
What package are you trying to merge that installs it?
Hmm, I just checked 'qpkg -q fam' again and now it lists xine-lib. Before it did not list anything and that's why I filed the bug as wanting to be installed with the default profile. Perhaps it was just a quirk during those few days in early August. Regardless, I have xine-lib installed and xine working perfectly. I do not see fam (and therefore portmap) being a requirement. Is there a reason to do so?
Hmmm, sounds like everything is OK now so closing this bug.
