Description Todd Partridge 2009-01-17 00:15:38 UTC
Hello all, thanks for the development work and making Gentoo great.

I recently installed zim and and it starts ok but I'm having several problems with it. I tried several things but haven't found any fixes yet.

What I see on my installation are these:
1) no /usr/share/zim directory is created, this contains the default.style file possibly others.
2) No plugins show in the preferences dialog.
3) Documentation refuses to show. i.e. Help > Content, Help > FAQ... show nothing.

I don't know any more about 1 or 2 but the "zim --doc" gives me:

Invalid dirname: '' at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/Zim/Utils.pm line 71

So I updated the ebuild to add a couple missing perl modules, also zim has a new web address and download url which I also updated.

I added two dependencies (Module:Build and Test::More) listed on http://zim-wiki.org/Install/Unix.html that were not in the ebuild. In the ebuild I used perl-core/Module-Build rather than virtual/perl-Module-Build and perl-core/Test-Simple rather than virtual/perl-Test-Simple (Test::Simple contains Test::More). I estimated the versions of perl-core/Module-Build (version 0.28.08) and perl-core/Test-Simple (version 0.84) corresponding to when zim was released.

Note, I do use KDE but this shouldn't be an issue. Attached new ebuild in next thread.

Reproducible: Always

Oh, I forgot to add that the new ebuild didn't fix these problems.
Comment 3 Wormo (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-01-17 07:27:41 UTC
Thanks for the report. To clarify a bit, did perl-core/Module-Build happen to be already installed on your system prior to adding it as a zim dependency? If so, that could explain why bug 253340 reported a build failure from the missing dependency, but you didn't run into that problem.
Comment 4 Todd Partridge 2009-01-20 01:09:29 UTC
Thanks for looking at this Wormo. No, perl-core/Module-Build was not already installed on my system. However, I did not run into the problem that the guy of bug 253340 did.
