I'm using firefox-3.1_beta2 from the mozilla overlay, and recently I'm getting random segmentation faults from firefox (the window simply disappears). I can't put my finger exactly what causes this, it sometimes happens when doing nothing at all (all tabs are closed and I'm not doing anything). I've tried disabling all add-ons, running in safe-mode, removing the flash plugin and removing ~/.mozilla/ altogether, but to no avail. I've recompiled xulrunner, firefox and glibc with -ggdb and I'll attach the most meaningful backtrace I could get. If recompiling any other package with debug symbols might help I'll gladly do it. emerge --info: Portage 2.2_rc20 (default/linux/amd64/2008.0, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.9_p20081201-r1, 2.6.28 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.28-x86_64-Intel-R-_Core-TM-2_Duo_CPU_T8300_@_2.40GHz-with-gentoo-2.0.0 Timestamp of tree: Mon, 29 Dec 2008 22:20:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 3.2_p48 dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7-r1, 2.1.6-r1 dev-lang/python: 2.6.1 dev-util/cmake: 2.6.2 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.0 sys-apps/openrc: 0.4.1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.3.2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.19 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6a virtual/os-headers: 2.6.28-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=core2 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/config /var/lib/hsqldb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/language.dat.d /etc/texmf/language.def.d /etc/texmf/updmap.d /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=core2 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--with-bdeps y --keep-going --jobs=3" FEATURES="distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch preserve-libs protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mirror.isoc.org.il/pub/gentoo http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" LANG="he_IL.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="en he" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/layman/mozilla /usr/local/portage/layman/java-overlay" SYNC="rsync://dagobah/gentoo-portage" USE="X a52 aac acl acpi aiglx aim alsa amd64 amr amrnb amrwb bash-completion berkdb bidi bugzilla bzip2 cairo cdr chm cli cracklib crypt cscope cups curl dbus dell dga divx dri dts dvd dvdr dvdread enca encode exif ffmpeg firefox flac fortran gd gdbm gif git glib glitz gpg gpm gstreamer gtk iconv icq icu idn ieee1394 ipod ipv6 isdnlog jabber java java5 java6 jpeg jpeg2k juju kde lame latex lyx mad matroska midi mmx mng mozilla mp3 mp4 mpeg mpeg2 mpeg4 mplayer msn mudflap multilib mysql ncurses network networkmanager nls nptl nptlonlynsplugin ogg opengl openmp oscar pam pch pcre pdf png ppds pppd python qt3 qt3support qt4 quicktime readline reflection sasl sdl session smp speex spell spl sqlite sqlite3 srt ssesse2 ssl ssse3 subversion svg symlink sysfs tcpd theora threads tiff truetype unicode usb v4l2 vim-pager vim-syntax vim-with-x vorbis wifi x264 xcb xcomposite xine xinerama xorg xulrunner xv xvid zlib" ALSA_CARDS="hda-intel" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev keyboard mouse synaptics" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="en he" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="vesa nv nvidia" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
Created attachment 176905 [details] backtrace for segfault
Some additions: I've also tried disabling JIT (the new experimental javascript enigne) in firefox and it didn't help. Secondly, this started happening out of the blue, firefox-3.1_beta2 worked great for me for some time (and beta1 before it), so I don't think that's to blame. My clues are linux-headers-2.6.28 and glibc-2.9_p20081201-r1 (BTW, I tried downgrading to linux-headers 2.6.27 and recompiling glibc but it didn't help either).
Any say on this, mozilla people?
Dupe of Bug 252302
You're right! I'm really sorry, I searched bugzilla over and over and couldn't find anything. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 252302 ***
