Description Tobias Leupold 2008-12-22 14:48:50 UTC
Portage fails to calculate amarok 2.0-r1's dependency tree. This also causes portage not being able to calculate the dependencies of all other packages.

The error message is:

schleppi tobias # emerge -av amarok
 * Overlay eclasses override eclasses from PORTDIR:
 *
 *   '/var/portage/layman/kde-testing/eclass/kde4-base.eclass'
 *   '/var/portage/layman/kde-testing/eclass/kde4-functions.eclass'
 *   '/var/portage/layman/kde-testing/eclass/kde4-meta.eclass'
 *
 * It is best to avoid overriding eclasses from PORTDIR because it will
 * trigger invalidation of cached ebuild metadata that is distributed with
 * the portage tree. If you must override eclasses from PORTDIR then you
 * are advised to add FEATURES="metadata-transfer" to /etc/make.conf and to
 * run `emerge --regen` after each time that you run `emerge --sync`. Set
 * PORTAGE_ECLASS_WARNING_ENABLE="0" in /etc/make.conf if you would like to
 * disable this warning.

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Comment 1 Rahul Jain 2008-12-22 17:57:57 UTC
Dependancy calculation also fails for mplayerthumbs and gtk-engines-qt from the kde-testing overlay. Should I file new bugs for this?
Comment 2 Jim Dory 2008-12-22 18:09:08 UTC
I noticed the same thing with digikam in the 4.1.85 overlay.
Comment 3 Robert Piasek (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-12-23 15:46:09 UTC
Guys, why are you reporting bugs from the overlay? Please take your problems to overlay maintainers, and not here.
Bugzilla is place for PORTAGE TREE bugs, not overlays.

Kde devs are waiting to hear your overlay problems on IRC #gentoo-kde
Comment 4 Tobias Leupold 2008-12-23 15:49:01 UTC
I thought the overlay guys said bugs for the 4.2-Beta versions would be accepted in Bugzilla. Sorry if this bug does not belong here.
Comment 5 Wormo (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-12-23 22:15:44 UTC
Some overylays managed by official gentoo devs do ask users to file bugs on the main bugzilla, so I'm going to assign this to kde team and let them decide whether to close it and request to a different bug reporting method.
Comment 6 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-12-24 14:53:01 UTC
This was just slight bug that slipped to our eclasses, sorry for inconvinience.

And we want the bugs here. Or we really need new bugzilla for our overlay?
