Comment 1 Adrian Chmielewski 2008-12-03 15:39:22 UTC
After few minutes of compilation all system crash.
I had no option to show when compilation crash.
For me there is some problem with bootstrap.

emerge mono >> bug.txt

Compilation dump by "emerge mono >> bug.txt"
Comment 3 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-12-03 16:38:05 UTC
The log doesn't show anything useful, so the system probably crashed before the output got synced to that file.
Comment 4 Adrian Chmielewski 2008-12-03 17:37:59 UTC
System works all the time correct. Only when i try to compile mono system crash. All packages build successful.
Comment 5 David Philippi 2008-12-04 01:29:38 UTC
When I tried to compile this ebuild memory usage went up to about 3,6 GB RES and around 6-7 GB VIRT in top output. My system got 4 GB real memory and 8 GB swap so this works, smaller systems probably get killed by the kernel killing random processes upon a compile by root...
The offending file was the first in the security directory IIRC. If need be it's easy to find out - just compile until heavy swapping starts...

I had the same problem.

The solution was:

emerge -C mono (old Version 1.9)
emerge mono (New Version)

And everything worked!
Comment 7 Adrian Chmielewski 2008-12-04 18:31:28 UTC
Work for me.
Comment 8 Peter Alfredsen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-12-04 18:45:49 UTC
Reopening for tracking.
Comment 9 Thomas 2008-12-28 11:19:57 UTC
Same problem by updating from dev-lang/mono-2.0.1 to dev-lang/mono-2.0.1-r1 and the same solution:

> emerge mono (New Version)

Did removing mono and re-emerging fix it?
Comment 13 simon 2009-04-05 19:35:40 UTC
Yes sorry for leaving this information out, unmerge and remerge worked fine.
Has someone already found out what is causing this memory consumption?
As this went stable now i think a better solution should be found (if i can deliver input for finding it let me know)
Comment 14 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2010-07-03 11:23:19 UTC
This looks fixed for me on all systems I maintain since a lot of time, but feel free to reopen if you still see this with 2.4* or 2.6*

Good luck!
