Description ProTech 2008-12-01 22:52:01 UTC
I use a stable Gentoo installation, so most of my packages are from stable e.g.: portgage, xorg, gnome, gcc, basesystem, etc. But there are some packages in my package.keywords file, and it's getting really fustrating that lot of the new version of these packages are EAPI2 only.

Some examples are: compiz, mono 2.0. There are packakes that don't even have EAPI1 unstable versions e.g.: dev-dotnet/gtksourceview-sharp (all versions are hard masked or EAPI2), which is a dependency for monodevelop.

Is there a plan that there will be a stable EAPI2 supporting portage soon (e.g.: in December)? Or stable users like myself who want to use some unstable packages have to update to a newer portage? Which portage versions support EAPI2, and considered the most stable?

Reproducible: Always

We should see portage-2.1.6 marked stable this month (with EAPI 2 support). The only known remaining flaw is bug #249185 which is partially fixed in svn. I'll do a portage-2.1.6_rc3 release later this week to close that bug.

This is fixed, I think :-)
