/usr/lib/ indeed does not exist, though /usr/lib/ exists
and is a symlink to

media-libs/libcaca-0.99_beta16 is installed.

Please run revdep-rebuild.
Reopen if the problem persists.
Remember to run revdep-rebuild after updating package if it does solve the problem.

I just hit this as well, and...

I did run revdep-rebuild and hit the problem again, BUT, I'm trying out unstable portage on this machine so that doesn't probably say much (portage-2.2_rc13).

I just wanted to point to for the quick and dirty fix - creating a link from /usr/lib/ to /usr/lib/
Comment 3 Martin Bays 2008-11-19 00:07:23 UTC
Original submitter here: I did run revdep-rebuild, along with various other updates, and somewhere along the line the symlink did get created. Sadly I don't know exactly what did it.

I had the same problem which was fixed after revdep-rebuild (so resolution is OK) but the file/link was not created as in your case. Is it maybe a leftover from attempts to fix it? Try qfile /usr/lib/ to see if it belongs to some package and if it doesn't, delete it and try a revdep-rebuild again.
Comment 5 Konstantin Münning 2009-07-31 09:55:38 UTC
This bug seems to be about the same issues as bugs #245328 and #249850 but none is marked as duplicate - maybe somebody should change that.
