merging "VMware-workstation-4.0.0-4460" works fine but when running vmware-configure.pl the script says it cannot use gcc... I have: - gcc 3.2.2 - gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r5 - linux-headers-2.4.19 output of vmware-config.pl: ---- Trying to find a suitable vmmon module for your running kernel. None of VMware Workstation's pre-built vmmon modules is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes] Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override. Could not run/locate gcc! Your compiler "/usr/bin/gcc" is not supported by this version of VMware Workstation. Unable to continue. Execution aborted. ---- I don't have any special modifications - only stable ebuilds (all current as of 15.july 2003) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge vmware 2. run vmware-config.pl as root Actual Results: vmware-config.pl terminates... so vmware cannot be run Expected Results: should have compiled "vmmon module" into the running kernel and configured the rest of vmware...
Found the solution... Kernel was compiled with an older version of gcc than the currently installed one... Bug can be closed (I'd do it if I knew how...)
