After doing an rsync this morning (CET) my portage tree seems totally borked. I also seem to not be alone with this problem, someone else also posted the same problem in a forum thread: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=393287#393287 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge sync 2. wait and watch 3. emerge info Portage 2.0.48-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.20-xfs-r3 i686 AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2000+ GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.inode.at http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo"CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" USE="x86 oss 3dnow apm avi crypt cups encode gif jpeg kde libg++ mikmod mmx mpeg ncurses nls pdflib png quicktime spell truetype xml2 xmms xv zlib gtkhtml alsa gdbm berkdb slang readline arts tetex aalib bonobo svga tcltk java guile mysql X sdl gpm tcpd pam libwww ssl perl python esd imlib oggvorbis gnome gtk qt motif opengl mozilla ldap cdr scanner dvd gtk2 samba xfs moznoirc moznomail moznocompose" COMPILER="gcc3" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" MAKEOPTS="-j2" AUTOCLEAN="yes" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" FEATURES="sandbox ccache"
emerge /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/portage-2.0.48-r2.ebuild
this does NOT solve the problem, after the next rsync it comes back again
I Have the same problem I can backup (or just delete) /usr/portage and do a normal rsync and emerge whatever I want but after another rsync I am back at the start ws usr # emerge info Portage 2.0.48-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1) ================================================================= System uname: 2.5.70 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://sunsite.dk/mirrors/gentoo/ http://gentoo.linux.no/ http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo/ " CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" USE="x86 dvd xinerama gtk2 pic acpi acpi4linux 3dnow aalib alsa avi crypt dga encode gif gtk imlib ipv6 java jpeg kde lcms mikmod mmx motif mozilla mpeg ncurses oggvorbis opengl pam pdflib perl png python qt qtmt quicktime readline sdl spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tiff truetype wmf X xml xml2 xmms xv" COMPILER="gcc3" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -mmmx -m3dnow -msse" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -mmmx -m3dnow -msse" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" MAKEOPTS="-j2" AUTOCLEAN="yes" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" FEATURES="sandbox ccache fixpackages" same for 2.0.48-r2
gentoo-devs please have a look at bug #23796
The box hosting the mainmirror rsync1.us is having some issues... currently working to fix this issue
*** Bug 23798 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
It should be fixed now. A revamp of the metadata building scripts is being done so it doesn't happen again.
