This is again the common issue with CC_FOR_BUILD. See bug #229415 as an example.

You can fix (workaround) it by specifying CC_FOR_BUILD. I modified the src_compile() in the ebuild like this:

src_compile() {
    econf \
        --mandir=/usr/share/man \
        --with-statedir=/var/lib/nfs \
        --disable-rquotad \
        --enable-nfsv3 \
        --enable-secure-statd \
        $(use_with tcpd tcp-wrappers) \
        $(use_enable !nonfsv4 nfsv4) \
        $(use_enable kerberos gss) \
        CC_FOR_BUILD=$(tc-getBUILD_CC) \
        || die "Configure failed"

    emake || die "Failed to compile"
}

That fixes the problem, it emerges fine now.
Comment 3 Albert Zeyer 2008-09-15 21:59:08 UTC
This is not related to case sensitifity.

Please read my report.

That is a common bug. Please look also at my references.
Comment 4 Albert Zeyer 2008-09-15 22:19:04 UTC
Please see bug #229415 as a proof that this has nothing to do with case sensitivity.
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2008-10-26 08:28:36 UTC
CC_FOR_BUILD doesnt randomly get set to "". your env had to coerce it that way.

Yes I know, but a lot of people run into this problem. A lot of ebuilds already have this workaround (just make a fast grep for ebuilds which sets CC_FOR_BUILD) and you will also find a lot of bug reports, for example:

bug #215831
bug #231050
bug #237725
bug #229415
bug #219042
bug #237736
bug #158775

One of the reasons why a user could have this problem is stated here:
bug #139559
Comment 7 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2008-10-26 10:58:19 UTC
ebuilds should not be working around a broken user setup. fix your setup.
