Description Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-14 12:38:26 UTC
Hiya,

So the latest version of distutils now tries to import from the test module. Since lxml includes a test.py in the same directory as the setup.py file, this gets pulled in and the installation then breaks.

A quick fix is to simply move the test.py, but I've included a patch that both moves the file and renames references to it in the documentation.

@Mike: Could you please start assigning bugs properly?
Comment 3 Matthias Liebig 2008-10-09 00:46:25 UTC
I don't know the Gentoo guidelines well enough, but since this bug only occurs with FEATURES="test" I would not consider it a blocker for python-2.6.

dev-python/lxml-2.1.1 compiled fine for me with dev-lang/python-2.6-r2 on x86.
Comment 4 Rob Cakebread (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-10-10 18:12:29 UTC
I'm using dev-lang/python-2.6-r2 and the tests all pass without your patch.

Can you attach some output of the failure, please?

Comment 5 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-10-10 18:24:07 UTC
Hiya, this would have affected anyone, whether they ran the tests or not, it was simply the presence of the file test.py that caused the problem, but I guess they must've fixed this up before python-2.6 went final, since I now also can't recreate it. Marking as FIXED.

I am attaching the result of 'FEATURES="test" emerge -av1 dev-python/lxml' which fails in the testing phase both without and with the namespace fix patch. I would consider it only a minor bug, so please decide whether you want to re-open it.

Thanks, Matthias, but please don't re-open as it's a different issue which I've opened a new bug #241156 for (lxml-2.1.1 doesn't work with libxml2-2.7.2) and tests fail with Python 2.5 also.
