Description Bob Raitz 2008-09-07 06:39:54 UTC
xorg-server-1.5.0 will not start when compiled using the intel i810 video driver. It starts using the vesa device.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install xorg-server-1.5.0
2. install all drivers to update, including xf86-video-i810
3. x fails to start, and sets errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Actual Results:
X fails to start.

Expected Results:
X should start as normal considering I use the VIDEO_CARDS="i810" in my etc/make.conf file.

Hi Bob,

i had to switch from "i810" to "intel" the driver in my X configuration file.

Maybe you can try this...

I should have tried ahead but here are the steps to solve this :
1) after emerging mesa and xorg-server, rebuild xf86-video-i810
2) switch your xorg.conf to the "intel" driver instead of "i810"

Thanks

Well, that was fast...so why the dropping of the i810? I suppose it doesn't matter. It works for me. Thanks to all

Blessed be!

Hi,

I followed above procedure but I get another error now, I'll attach my xorg.conf and Xorg log now.

Having been bitten by this, may I suggest a portage message on emerge of the i810 driver recommending this course of action?

My plan (I just need to get 'round to it) was to completely remove all traces of the "i810" named files in the driver.

Thanks
