The named init script in /etc/init.d/named has the wrong location for the PID 
file for BIND.  It looks in PIDFILE="/var/run/named.pid" when it should be 
PIDFILE="/var/run/named/named.pid".

the truth is it *should* be looking for /var/run/named.pid ;)
